Russia – EU consultations on Africa
On 30 October 2019 Russia – EU consultations on Africa were held in Brussels with the participation of Andrei Kemarsky, Director of the Department of Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and Koen Vervaeke, Managing Director for Africa of the European External Action Service.
The two sides exchanged views on the situation in main problematic areas on the continent, including the Sakhara-Sahel region, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Somalia.
The EEAS partners gave an account of the development of EU – African Union relations, joint peacekeeping operations and partnerships in the fight against terrorism and cross-border crime. Andrei Kemarsky briefed the participants on the main outcomes of the first Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum held in Sochi on 23–24 October 2019.
